Crowne Plaza treats man’amko to special lunch

Bringing smiles to Saipan’s elderly, Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan staff visited the Office on Aging in Garapan last Monday where they provided a special lunch to the island’s man’amko or senior citizens.

Crowne Plaza general manager Robert Coates said the initiative was part of their “Giving for Good” month.

“This is what we call our ‘Giving for Good’ in the month of September where we give for good… it’s a month of different activities where we give back to the community. We’ve got a few activities taking place but this is a main activity that we’re doing, which is lunch for this special group of people—our senior citizens— and recognizing what they’ve done for the community. Our kitchen prepares lunch and all of our team will be here serving the lunch and hopefully it’s something nice for the residents,” he said.

A total of 60 man’amkos enjoyed the special lunch with the bright smiles around the room indicative of their appreciation of Crowne Plaza’s generous gesture.

Aside from lunch, the Office on Aging congregates also took part in karaoke with some of the songs dedicated to the Crowne Plaza staff.

Office on Aging executive director Walter Manglona was very grateful for Crowne Plaza staff taking time off from their busy schedule to drop by and serve the man’amko a special lunch.

“When I received word from my friend, Das Krishnan (Crowne Plaza banquet manager), about a couple of weeks ago we were talking about scheduling an event where they can give back to the seniors. One of the main highlights of our program is our nutrition program and we communicated about maybe establishing a hosting event. It’s something that our seniors can enjoy and have a good time and celebrate with each other to celebrate life.”

In behalf of the Office on Aging’s man’amko, Manglona then thanked Crowne Plaza for making them a part of their “Giving for Good” month.

“We’re so appreciative of Crowne Plaza for their generosity and we hope that we will continue to do this for our seniors and build partnership. With that said, we just want to say thank you.”
