Cuki promises exciting ‘Cage of Fire’ on Dec. 14
The anticipation is building for “Cage of Fire,” set to ignite the local combat sports scene on Dec. 14, 2024. Hosted at the iconic Garapan Central Park Roundhouse, this event promises an action-packed evening showcasing the best of kickboxing, combat grappling, and mixed martial arts.
Trench Tech Purebred Purebred Promotions is currently seeking talent, specifically looking for two fighters in the 105-110-lbs weight class for thrilling kickboxing bouts, which will highlight speed and technique.
Additionally, they’re inviting two fighters for combat grappling, a unique discipline that allows grappling with open-palm strikes, creating a dynamic challenge for athletes eager to test their versatility.
MMA fighters are also encouraged to join the card, offering a chance to showcase their skills in a format that blends striking and grappling.
Trench Tech Purebred Promotions owner Justis “Cuki” Alvarez explains, “We promote friendship through fighting.” Fans can expect a night filled with adrenaline, skill, and the spirit of sportsmanship as fighters take to the cage to demonstrate their hard work and dedication.
In a recent interview, Alvarez shared his inspiration behind creating the “Cage of Fire” event. “Originally, Trench Tech started its MMA promotional events for the first time in 2005 and had our very first actual cage fight in December of that year, called ‘Trench-Warz Fight Night’” he recounted.
This inaugural event followed a disappointing experience at the Tinian Fiesta, where a team of inexperienced local fighters faced seasoned opponents from Guam. He detailed the evolution of his fight promotions, explaining how the original events—Trench Warz, Rites of Passage, and The Art of War—laid the groundwork for today’s initiatives.
“After more than five years of inactivity due to typhoons and COVID-19, we reintroduced unarmed combat events in December 2023 with ‘Ring of Fire.’ Now, ‘Cage of Fire’ continues that legacy.”
He emphasized the significance of the name “Cage of Fire,” connecting it to personal and experiences. “The theme of ‘fire’ resonates with us, as we live in the Ring of Fire region of the world and our islands were formed by fire and lava. So, from utter fire, chaos, explosions, and destruction came our beautiful islands we now call the Marianas,” Alvarez explained.
“So the whole ‘fire’ theme just made sense to me, and I ended up embracing the fire and destruction it brought and used it for a positive toward our whole mission moving forward.”
When asked about the criteria for selecting fighters, Alvarez noted, “We look for everyone and anyone who is interested in competing. Of course, to keep the integrity of our promotional events in check and to keep safety first and foremost, we have all interested combatants fill out our pre-fight screening and fighter questionnaire.”
He added, “We make sure that all fighters are physically and mentally/emotionally stable and fit to compete.”
Alvarez reiterated the importance of these events for the local combat sports community.
“Our motto is: ‘We promote friendship through fighting.’ So, the way our events contribute to the sports community is we compete in the name of goodwill and ambassadorship through all our MMA events.”
Over the years, fighters from various regions, including the CNMI, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Japan, and the Philippines have competed in his events, fostering a vibrant fighting spirit. Spectators can expect an exhilarating atmosphere filled with non-stop action.
“We bring the heat every time! Spectators can expect non-stop hard-hitting action from all fighters, beginner or pro,” Alvarez promises, underscoring the commitment to delivering an unforgettable experience for fans.
Looking to the future, he remains optimistic. “We will continue to host our events as long as people are willing to compete. Our fighting history and competitive spirit ensure a bright future for Trench Tech Purebred Saipan.”
For those interested in competing, Alvarez offers valuable advice: “Everything starts with a positive mindset. Preparation is key! You must be physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared to compete in the cage.”
He emphasizes, “I always tell this to my students: ‘Fatigue makes cowards out of men.’ So, train hard, stay prepared and have a positive mindset, and you will not only do good in the cage but more importantly, you will do good in life in general.”
As the date approaches, the excitement for “Cage of Fire” is palpable. Whether you’re a fighter ready to challenge yourself or a spectator eager to support your favorites, this event promises to be a memorable night in Saipan’s combat sports history.
