DPS: No current signs of foul play in CK death
Although the identity of the Chinese man whose body was found in a Chalan Kanoa apartment Tuesday has not been made public yet, police said that he was 59 years old.
Criminal Investigation Bureau commander Capt. Jeffrey Olopai shared that while DPS has established the identity of the man, they are still currently reaching out to the Chinese consulate to try and locate a next of kin, thus they couldn’t yet disclose his name to the public.
“We will be requesting through the OAG [Office of Attorney General] that an autopsy be conducted. The cause of death is still undetermined, [but there are] no signs of foul play [that] has been determined at this point of time.”
With concerns arising in the community that a killer is on the loose, DPS assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon T. Manacop shared, “DPS is working diligently in gathering facts surrounding this investigation. We assure the public that at this point there are no evidence that suggest that the death was caused by another person.”
He continued to urge the community that if they saw or have seen anything of suspicious nature to contact DPS or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.
The investigation stemmed after a Chinese man’s body was found in an apartment at Char’s Commercial Building in Chalan Kanoa last Oct. 22. The body was discovered in an early stage of decomposition. According to the DPS report, a witness shared that the man was last seen on Oct. 18 and mentioned that he wasn’t feeling well. A co-worker, unable to reach him on the day of the discovery, later found his body.
The finding eerily coincided in many ways with another case of a discovery of a body just weeks earlier.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau at (670) 664-9042 or call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (670) 234-7272 to remain anonymous.
