DPS expends over $7M in 2023
The Department of Public Safety has expended over $7 million in fiscal year 2023.
According to DPS’ community-centric report that it released earlier this month, in total, the department has expended $7,549,250.39, about $2,448.96 more than they were allotted by the government which was about $7,546,801.
Breaking it down, DPS said it spent about $124,649.70 under the commissioner’s office, $224,840.54 under the division of motor vehicles, $399,578.23 under the administration division, and $6,800,181.92 under the police division.
DPS stated in its report that a large portion of the allotted budget for fiscal year 2023 was prioritized for personnel salary.
DPS currently employs 34 civilian and 178 sworn personnel.
Second to salary was operational cost with the largest expense being gas and vehicle maintenance for DPS’ fleet.
DPS also procured 25 units of electronic citation hardware for Highway Patrol and Patrol vehicles.
Meanwhile, DPS said it also spent on various trainings and conferences which were attended virtually. These trainings focused on Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Training Laser/Radar Training.
