Dirty Diamonds rally vs. Lady Blue Jays, 11-9
The Dirty Diamonds got down and dirty in the last innings for a late-game rally and won over the Lady Blue Jays, 11-9, in the Inaugural NMI Softball Women’s League 2024 last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field in Susupe.
Despite a one-run first inning by the Dirty Diamonds, the Lady Blue Jays retaliated quickly. They were up, 2-1 at the end of the first from runs scored by Herminia Agulto and Kiana Camacho.
Their pitcher, Bert Camacho, then silenced the Dirty Diamonds in the next three innings. Her offense backed her up with five more runs in the second from Brit Lizama, Bong Babauta, Agulto, Kiana, and Erin Mendiola, for a solid 7-1 lead.
However, the Dirty Diamonds found their swing in the fifth inning and began to chip away at the Lady Blue Jays’ lead. Lorenza Duenas started it off with a run, followed by another run by Joma Santos and Lori Lacey to make it a 4-7 game.
The Lady Blue Jays failed to score in the fifth, which allowed the Dirty Diamonds to rack up more runs in the sixth. Mo Sablan, Irish Pagarao, and Duenas all rounded the bases to tie it all up, 7-7, and erase the once daunting gap the Lady Blue Jays enjoyed.
The Lady Blue Jays then nudged a run in to regain the lead, 8-7, at the bottom of the sixth, but the Dirty Diamonds found a way to make things happen once again at the top of the seventh. Clutch runs by top of their lineup—Britney Gopez, Amy Cabrera, Rachel Salalila, and Sablan—turned the tide and made it an 11-8 game.
With the final say by the Lady Blue Jays in the batters’ box, they only came up with just one more run at the bottom of the last inning as they lost the game from a blown early game lead.
In the other games that day, Man Amigas banded together to beat Wettz, 11-4, and Batties pummeled 670 Babes, 17-4.
