Dodgers ring in sixth Masters League win

The local Dodgers team makes it seem like Shohei Ohtani signed with them instead with the way they’re playing in the 2023 Tan Holdings-SBL Masters League.

They knocked out the Spartans, 16-2, for their sixth win last Wednesday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The winless Spartans can’t just get a break and are not unlike the Oakland Athletics of the last Major League Baseball season. The Spartans faced off against the league’s No. 2 team and suffered at the bats of their stacked lineup.

The first inning started off quietly enough with just one run scored by the Dodgers’ James Benavente, but the punches came rolling in the second and third which forced the game to end early.

The Dodgers hit in six runs in the second with help from multiple fielding errors by the Spartans that the Dodgers capitalized on. In the same inning, Derek Aguon hit an RBI triple that scored Benavente.

The Spartans could only watch as their pitching and defense fell apart, and with the lack of offense, it became the unholy trinity that led to their seventh loss.

The Dodgers just kept adding fuel to the huge fire that is already raging and scored six more runs in the third inning. The Spartans’ bats finally connected and they scored two runs in the fourth by way of Ryan Pangelinan and Cris Pangelinan, but at this point, it was too late to play catch up.

The Dodgers scored three more from Aguon, Mel Manahane, and Clint Quitugua, and that was it for the Spartans as they went scoreless to end the game on run-mercy ruling.

In the standings, the only team above the Dodgers is the undefeated Pirates with seven wins.

Last Tuesday’s game between the Reds and the Marlins was rescheduled for tonight due to inclement weather.
