Early voting begins today

The CNMI’s elections are fast approaching, this is made evident with early voting starting today at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center.

The Commonwealth Election Commission has announced that early voting for the Nov. 5 elections will begin today at the multi-purpose center for all registered voters.

Doors will open at 8:30am and will remain open until 4pm for the next seven days leading up to election day.

“We would like to remind all registered voters that early voting starts [today]. The hours for voting will be from 8:30am to 4pm each day for the next seven days (Oct. 29 to Nov. 4),” said CEC.

CEC is encouraging all voters to take advantage of the early voting process.

“If you know that you will be unable to visit your polling place on Election Day, we encourage you to take advantage of the early voting process. Please remember to bring an ID with you to help speed up the verification process conducted by election officials,” said CEC.

CEC reminds voters that confined voting service is available for individuals who are unable to vote in person due to health reasons. Additionally, family members are allowed to request confined voting for their relatives.

“Please note that requests for this service must be made by 12pm each day,” said CEC.

CEC adds that curbside voting is available exclusively for elderly and disabled voters.

“We kindly ask that this service be used only by those who truly need it to ensure a smooth experience and prevent congestion at polling locations. We appreciate your cooperation and encourage everyone to participate in the electoral process,” said CEC.

According to Saipan Tribune archives, a total of 61 candidates will vie for positions in U.S. Congress as well as the CNMI Senate and House of Representatives, municipal councils on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, and the CNMI Board of Education for the 2024 general elections.

The highlight of the upcoming election is the U.S. delegate race, a position that has been held by Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP) for years.

The five delegate candidates are Republican Party of the CNMI’s Kimberlyn King-Hinds, the CNMI Democratic Party’s and House floor leader Rep. Edwin K. Propst (D-Saipan), and independent candidates John Gonzales, Liana Hoffschneider, and James Rayphand.
