FOG to enhance wastewater system efficiency
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. wishes to inform the public about the Fats, Oils, and Grease Program, effective Sept. 19, 2023. This program includes all food service establishments and residential properties connected to wastewater sewer systems islandwide.
The primary objective of the FOG Program is to conduct thorough inspections of FSEs’ grease traps and inceptors, aiming to minimize grease buildup in the island’s wastewater collection systems. In compliance with regulations outlined in the CUC Title 50 § 50-20-210 and BECQ Part 600 § 65-120-670, this reflects CUC’s commitment to upholding environmental standards and ensuring the longevity of the wastewater infrastructures.
The FOG Program not only focuses on inspections but also serves as an educational platform for FSEs. It emphasizes the critical importance of regular maintenance of grease traps and inceptors. Additionally, this program enforces the installation of grease traps/inceptors and ensures adequate sizing for all FSEs not currently in compliance.
CUC appreciates the cooperation of the public to ensure the smooth implementation of the islandwide Fats, Oils, and Grease Program. By doing so, the community collectively contributes to the preservation of the island’s environmental well-being and ensures the sustained efficiency of wastewater collection systems.
CUC continues to work diligently to minimize any inconvenience to its customers. For more information, contact CUC Customer Service at (670) 664-4282 or monitor our Facebook page for the latest updates. (CUC)
