Ferrer takes pole position in Mini II

T.J. Ferrer won a second consecutive monthly race in the Mini II Class of the 2023 Monster Energy Point Series Race last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Track.

The 13-year-old incoming seventh grader at Tanapag Elementary School topped the July race of the Marianas Racing Association with 47 points, edging Billie Inabo Pangelinan in Heat 2 to win the competition. Pangelinan also got 47 points for second place, while Nanako Celis settled for third place with 40 points.

In the race for the 2023 Mini II championship plate, Ferrer has taken over pole position with 218 points, followed by Pangelinan and Celis with 214 points each.

Ferrer said despite the surprisingly dry course considering it rained the whole time last week, he was able to win after “staying the course and kept pushing” for the lead.

“I barely trained through the summer but I gained the confidence on Sunday to push my hardest.”

He then thanked his family and the Trench Tech Racing Team for their support in his motocross career.

“My Dad and all of the people in the MRA have been helping me along the way,” added Ferrer.

In the Novice Class, it’s so far been a perfect 2023 season for Vicente “Beng” Palacios after the 14-year-old Marianas High School student won his fifth consecutive race.

His 50 points gave him 250 points total for the season, while Matthew Guerrero and Christian Camacho came in second and third with 40 points apiece.

For the season, Camacho is second with 212 points. Frankie Sablan is third with 164 points.

Aric Cruz, meanwhile, won the July race in the Intermediate Class with 47 points. He nipped Corry Pangelinan in Heat 2 to take the race as the latter also wound up with 147 points. Ethan Yumul was third with 38 points.

For the year, Pangelinan is just 3 points short of a perfect season so far with 147 points, while Yumul is second with 178 points and Cruz’s 157 points is good for third.

In the Peewee ATV Class, Nakoa Torres was the lone rider and won the division without a fight for 50 points to add to his division-lading 238 points for 2023. Rockson Cabrera has 100 points for the season.

Bentley Koshiro raced in the Peewee I Class and won also without competition for 50 points and now has 150 points for the year.

Elleayah Cruz continued to hold steady in the Mini I Class and took the checkered flag with 50 points. She also leads the division for the season with 200 points. Kaleb Reyes was the only other rider last Sunday and got 44 points for finishing second.

In the Mini ATV Class, Anella Igitol trudged along and earned 50 points for her solo ride in the division. She also leads the category with 194 points, followed by Kimason Cabrera’s 90 points and Francesca Yumul’s 67 points.

The results of other divisions in the July edition of the 2023 Monster Energy Point Series Race will be published in the next issue of Saipan Tribune.
