Finding Light: A performance of hope, love, and bravery
Saipan Dance Studio will be organizing and hosting a formal performance at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center called “Finding Light” on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 6pm to 8pm, to highlight this month’s Domestic Violence Awareness message and cause.
Further, the event aims to further promote love, hope, and bravery in the island community through the art of performance and collaboration, with the non-profit organization Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence as Saipan Studio’s chosen beneficiary.
“With the Multi-Purpose Center venue capacity of 300 seats, we call out the community’s support and attendance to fill each seat this coming Saturday evening for this important charitable event and significant performance,” the studio said in a news release.
The dance concert will also be showcasing Saipan Dance Studio’s students, whose ages range from as young as 4 years old to 16-years-old teens.
The stage will also be graced by a key speaker representing the NMCADSV and will have a special finale performance by Jasmine Johanson and Linz Wang, the owners and instructors of Saipan Dance Studio, who have a combined 20 years of professional and performing arts experience across three continents.
Johanson is a professional ballet dancer with degrees in Education and Dance and over 10 years of teaching experience in China and the United States, with a more recent professional tour and competition in Germany this past summer.
Wang has been dancing and teaching in Europe and the United States for the last seven years and continues her professional work there from Saipan.
In line with Saipan Dance Studio’s mission to impart the art of dance and fitness to its students, the studio also teaches them essential life skills such as focus, teamwork, discipline, work ethic, and the importance of reaping rewards through dedication. “That includes building upon foundational skills aimed to transcend beyond studio walls to find its way into our students’ homes and family life and into the classrooms of our local schools, cultivating stronger, more well-rounded students and community members,” the news release added.
This Saturday’s event is also organized as a charitable endeavor, with 25% of ticket sales and monetary donations received earmarked for the NMCADSV, which is led by executive director Maisie B. Tenorio, its board members, staff and volunteers.
This is the first of many events that Saipan Dance Studio plans to host and organize and it hopes it is the first of many collaborations with significant nongovernment organizations like NMCADSV.
Saipan Studio hopes to continue its collaboration with NMCADSV for the promotion of love, hope, and bravery and the call for action to end all forms of violence, especially among the most vulnerable in the community like women and children
Saipan Dance Studio’s next charitable performance in February 2023 aims to promote “Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.”
“We hope NMCADSV’s continued efforts and these charitable events will help elevate the attention of our community to raise its awareness and personal responsibility and action through continued awareness, collaboration and charity.” it said.
Admission to this charitable and meaningful event is $20. Get your tickets today to support the cause and to learn more about Saipan Dance Studio by contacting Johanson or Wang at (670) 989-3303/588-6654. (PR)
