GMP x Yuman survives Savemore, 101-98

GMP x Yuman survived Savemore, 101-98, in the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 at the Gillette Multi-purpose Gymnasium last Sunday.

It was a neck-and-neck game throughout as both teams were fresh off a win in the league’s opening day last June 30.

Both teams had a mix of youth and experience and until the last seconds, the game could’ve gone either way. But Yuman’s Raymond Atencio came in clutch to break the 98-98 tie in the final seconds. Then, Jayvan Ebello sunk a free throw to establish the 3-point lead that eventually won them the game.

The first half saw both teams trading baskets, with neither able to establish a significant lead. Savemore managed to eke out a narrow 2-point advantage by halftime, going into the break with a 46-44 lead, but Yuman was determined to turn the tide in the last half with renewed vigor.

Both teams sported a 1-0 record and the undefeated record to start the league off hung in the balance, so as the final minutes dawned on the court, the intensity only heightened.

Yuman’s Jether Medina and Justine Enano were a duo to be reckoned with as they took turns at the basket. Sean Licayan, Carl Aldan, and Jude Tengco also released bullseyes to get their scores in double digits.

In the end, Medina led Yuman with 20 points, while Enano was right behind at 18. Licayan contributed 15. For Savemore, Malinay put up 18 markers and Jandoc and Lucero had twin 16s.

Also last Sunday, Team Underground kept afloat against Star Water, 108-64; Jacob’s Bakeshop burned Triskelion, 78-71; and Islander Rent A Car drove to victory over Saipan Tigers, 97-60.

The Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 is made up of eight teams and is played every Sunday at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium.
