HSEM to conduct mobile siren testing starting today
The CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be conducting tests of their mobile all-hazard siren system starting from today, May 29, to May 30.
To ensure that its mobile siren system is operational and effective in alerting the public during emergencies, HSEM will be conducting a mobile all-hazard siren test for the next two day.
“This mobile all-hazard siren is a critical component of the CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s emergency preparedness and response strategy, designed to alert residents of a range of potential threats including tsunami warnings, severe weather warnings, wildfire warnings, and air raids warnings,” said HSEM.
The test will occur between 9:30am and 2pm and involve the activation of the siren at Pau Pau Beach and Garapan Fishing Base.
Specifically, the mobile sirens will be activated from 9:30am to 11:30am at Pau Pau Beach and 1pm to 2pm at the Garapan Fishing Base to ensure comprehensive coverage and system functionality.
HSEM cautions that the siren will emit a loud, audible tone designed to alert residents. It is expected to be heard both indoors and outdoors within testing areas.
In addition, each mobile siren activation will last for approximately 2 minutes, with multiple activations throughout the testing period
HSEM reminds that residents do not need to take any action during the mobile siren activation and not to be alarmed by the sounds as it is only a test.
