‘Hollywood’ shows he’s all business in Novice Class

Christian “Hollywood” Camacho was all business and some show in earning his first Novice Class win of the season in the 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Park in Marpi.

Trying his hand riding on two wheels after dominating the Big Boy ATV Class in previous seasons, Camacho won both heats for a perfect score of 50 points. Matthew Guerrero, who had his streak of six consecutive wins broken, settled for second place with 42 points, while Ponce Rasa tied Guerrero with 42 points, but came third in the second heat to settle for third overall.

“The weather was cloudy for the first heat and poured rain during the second heat. The track was perfect in the beginning, but became muddy and slippery on the second heat,” said Camacho, who rode the night-and-day track conditions on his brother’s 2023 Yamaha Yz250f.

He said the Marianas Racing Association did him a favor by combining three classes in last Sunday’s race.

“I think what made me push myself even more was the fact that they combined the Expert, Intermediate, and Novice classes. I’m naturally competitive, and the adrenaline from the other experienced riders pumped me up. Racing with faster riders forced me to kick it up a notch and try to keep up with their caliber.”

Camacho then dedicated his August win to his brother, who loaned him his bike because it was sitting unused for most of the season due to his brother’s busy work schedule.

“I’d also like to thank God for keeping me and everyone safe. Also, my beautiful wife and daughter for helping me get ready for my races. My mom and dad for their continuous support,” he said, while adding that the latter just celebrated his 61st birthday.

As for the adjustments he made from ATV motocross to motorbike riding, he said he’s gradually getting the hang of it.

“Each type has its own set of challenges and skills, making the experience unique. Riding on two wheels means you’re always balancing and adjusting, which makes the bike super agile. Four wheels give you more stability and control, making it easier to handle rough patches and keep your speed up. Because the bike was new to me, I had to make a couple of suspension adjustments as well as inputting new tuning maps.”

In the Power Puff Girls Class, Miyako Celis took the cake with 50 points, followed by Hiromi Sasamoto and Kesiil Camacho with 44 points and 20 points, respectively.

Billie Inabo Pangelinan, meanwhile, continued to rule the Women’s Class with another 50 points with Mari Alvarez and Sheanna Pangelinan completing the Top 3 with 42 points apiece.
