Hyatt, 500 Sails partner up again to offer free canoe rides
In collaboration with 500 Sails, Hyatt Regency Saipan brings back the culturally authentic canoe rides at the resort’s ocean front, home to Skipper’s Beach Bar each Thursday from 4pm to 6pm.
After its first successful event last year, it is the second time that Hyatt Regency guests and local residents can enjoy a free excursion aboard a canoe—built and inspired by indigenous sailing traditions.
This unique and memorable experience will be supported by post card perfect sunset backdrops.
In 2014, Emma and Pete Perez established 500 Sails with a vision that was dedicated to revive, promote, and practice of the maritime cultural traditions of the Mariana Islands. In order for this to be successful, 500 Sails vows to unite traditional cultural values into modern life to build a healthy community.
500 Sails Community Programs and Development director Kuen-Hee Han said, “500 Sails is very excited to be given this opportunity to be present on Saipan’s most famous site, Hyatt’s Micro Beach.”
“This will be a great way to whet the appetites of guests and communities immersing themselves in the maritime culture,” xhe added
According to Simon Graf, general manager of Hyatt Regency Saipan, working with and supporting the community is one of the fundamental pillars of Hyatt’s World of Care. “Over the past 65 years, care has been at the heart of everything that we do at Hyatt. Our goals, particularly in the areas of social and environmental sustainability were defined by understanding what is important to our colleagues, guests, customers, owners, investors, and communities,” he said.
“Many thanks to 500 Sails for selecting us for the continued partnership and thriving these respected cultural exposures on our ocean front. Here at Hyatt, we call our guests discoverists, explorists, and globalists—a very similar comparison to the deep heritage to the people in Marianas who connected their world and broadened their horizon by building boats and sailing into the unknown. There is no better way than experiencing these cultural assets first hand right on Micro Beach and confident that these activities cross promote many aspects of Saipan and we are honored to be part of the collaboration,” Graf added.
Complimentary and educational canoe rides take place every Thursday from 4pm to 6pm until November 2023 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
