Hyatt hosts SSHS students for Hospitality Program Tour

A total of 27 students from Saipan Southern High School embarked on an enriching journey into the world of hospitality with a visit to Hyatt Regency Saipan last Tuesday.

Organized as part of their hospitality program at Northern Marianas Technical Institute and Island Training Solutions, this collaboration with Hyatt provided students with invaluable insights and practical experience crucial for their future careers in the industry.

Led by general manager Simon Graf, the team at Hyatt Regency Saipan warmly welcomed the students, offering them firsthand exposure to the operations of a leading hospitality establishment. Graf emphasized the importance of real-world experiences in preparing students for the workforce, stating, “Exposing students to real-world hospitality environments is essential in preparing them for future career opportunities.”

During the visit, students had the opportunity to know more about various hotel departments, including Engineering, Housekeeping, Human Resources, Culinary, Food & Beverage, and Front Office. Elena Gersonde, Hospitality Program teacher at SSHS, highlighted the significance of the partnership with Hyatt Regency Saipan in providing students with a comprehensive understanding of hotel operations. “Hyatt Regency Saipan is a crucial part of the hospitality course we are teaching,” she said. “The goal is for students to see and understand how daily hotel operations work, from the Engineering Department to the Front Office.”

The visit also included a Q&A session at Giovanni’s, where students engaged with management and staff members, gaining valuable insights into their daily tasks and career journeys.

Graf expressed Hyatt Regency Saipan’s commitment to community engagement and sustainability, stating, “We are honored to be selected for this community engagement initiative and are committed to supporting the development of future hospitality professionals.” As part of the visit, Hyatt Regency Saipan will contribute to the Hyatt Thrive initiative, further demonstrating its dedication to community engagement and sustainability.
