Inmate allegedly raped inside cell
A Department of Corrections inmate was allegedly sexually assaulted in her cell while incarcerated and DOC administration is currently looking into the matter.
Without going into details, DOC Commissioner Anthony Torres shared that he is investigating the recent claims made by a DOC inmate that she was sexually assaulted by a male inmate while they were both incarcerated at DOC.
“I want you all to know that I take all allegations and investigations related to this claim very seriously. Rest assured my department along with the Department of Public Safety are diligently looking into this matter or any other related matters,” Torres said.
When asked for additional information and possibly details about the case, he said he could not comment further.
“Given there is a pending investigation, I can’t comment any further,” he said.
Meanwhile, Saipan Tribune learned from multiple credible sources that last week, a female inmate was allegedly sexually assaulted after a male inmate managed to enter her cell.
It was only after a roll call and inspection that the two were found together in the woman’s cell.
When officers found the two inmates, the female inmate claimed she was forced into sexual activity with the male inmate and DPS was called in to investigate.
On April 2, Saipan Tribune learned that the female was brought to the Commonwealth Healthcare Center to be treated and evaluated.
An investigation was launched shortly after she was brought to CHCC for an evaluation.
