Jandoc, Enano are Destroyers MVPs
The most valuable players of the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 were announced during the championship awards ceremony held last Sunday night at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium.
The finals MVP was championship team Savemore’s Getsen Jandoc for his team-high 21 points and leadership on the court, while third place GMP x Yuman’s Justine Enano was the regular season MVP for his pinpoint accuracy and consistency.
The “Mythical 5” awards were also given.
Enano took home the Best Forward award along with Savemore’s Daryll Foronda; the Best Guards were Frank Ferrer and Jhay-R Gatbonton; and the Best Center award was given to Emman Bondad.
The Best Coach award went to Savemore’s Joel Saplan.
The Sportsmanship award was bestowed to Star Water.
Fourth place was Islander Rent A Car; third place was GMP x Yuman; the runner-up was Jacob’s Bakeshop; and the champion was Savemore.
For 49-year-old Jandoc, he said of his award, “I feel good. My shots were always going in.” He added that the strategy in the finals was “to just keep fighting until the end.” As for their finals opponent Jacob’s Bakeshop, he said, “I thought they weren’t that tough, but actually they were very tough because most of the players are young and new.”
The league, he said, “is the best league I’ve been in on Saipan.”
For 25-year-old Enano’s part, he said, “I’m very happy and thankful that I was part of the Mythical 5. For the season MVP award, I was shocked and also overwhelmed because as a basketball player, that’s a big award and that’s also my first ever MVP season here.
The season, he said, “was fun and full of excitement. As a team, we practiced and prepared for every game this season.” As for the league, he said, “Everything was organized and all the teams that joined were really good.”
He then thanked God, his wife for her support in his games, his family, his coach, and his teammates, and their team’s sponsor, Mario Yumul. He said his awards were not just for him, but his team as well.
