The Rotary Club of Saipan simultaneously held its first “Celebrity Bagging” at Joeten Superstore in San Jose and Triple J Payless SuperFresh & Truckload Store in Susupe last Saturday from 9am to 10am.
A total of 200 reusable bags were distributed at Joeten Superstore and Triple J Payless SuperFresh, according to Rotary president Irene Holl. The reusable bags were purchased by the club.
“We bought the bags and would like to thank our Rotary member Marie Javier of SM for helping us ship the bags here from Philippines.”
Government officials, leaders in private agencies, and community role models who belong to Rotary served as celebrities of the “Celebrity Bagging.” They volunteered to bag groceries for an hour while spreading awareness of the benefits of reducing the use of plastic bags.
“One of Rotary International’s newest area of focus is the environment. Our objective is to support activities that strengthen conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment,” according to Rotary Club of Saipan Community Services director Billy Grow
He also mentioned that they plan to keep doing another “Celebrity Bagging” this Rotary year 2024-2025 to continue supporting Rotary International initiatives to safeguard our environment.
The Rotary Club of Saipan will have its installation of officers for the Rotary Year 2024-2025 this coming Saturday from 6pm to 10pm at the Queens Hall of Kensington Hotel.
