Jung jumps to July tourney win

Jung Eun Teack has qualified for the season-ending Ace of Aces Tournament of the Saipan Golfers Association after topping the July tournament last July 28 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course.

Teack actually finished second to Nick Sablan in the competition after both golfers fired identical net scores of 70 each. The latter reached the best score of the day following an excellent 36 in the front nine and a 41 in the back nine for a gross off 77 for the 7-handicapper.

Teack, meanwhile, mirrored Sablan’s net 70 following a 44-42 and 86 slate for the 16-handicapper. Sablan, however, won via scorecard tiebreak, but since he already won last March, Teack was given the July win. Last month’s winner, Freddie Cataluna, completed the Top 3 with his 71 net (36-38, 74).

With the win, Teack joins earlier 2024 Ace of the Month winners—Larry Deleon Guerrero (January), Alex Tudela (February), Das Krishnan (April), Joe I. Sablan (May), and Cataluna (June).

In the closest to the pin competition, Teack beat all comers in hole No. 4, while Sablan did the same in hole No. 6. Rick Kautz was without peer in hole No. 11. Ditto for Joe Sablan in hole No. 15. Cataluna then brought the lumber in holes No. 3 and 18 and won the longest drive on both contests.

The 2024 August Ace of the Month is scheduled this Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course. Tee time is 9am and show time is 8:30am.
