KHS rallies to win, 17-13

Kagman High School Ayuyus varsity fastpitch softball team has won their first game in the Inaugural PSS-NMI Softball Association Interscholastic Boys High School Fast Pitch Softball League 2024-2025.

They were down by two runs at the end of the third inning, but had a bounce back last inning to win, 17-13, over Mount Carmel School Knights last Saturday at the Dandan Softball Field.

The Ayuyus played it smart and took advantage of the Knights’ pitching change as they walked the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Down 11-13, soon it became 15-13 in the Ayuyus’ favor. Two more runs would be scored by the top of the lineup’s Devin Yumul and Justin Camacho to pad their lead by four runs, 17-13.

The Knights had the last at-bat, but they failed to manufacture runs even as they tried to get something going. They went on to leave runners on base as KHS’ pitcher shut them down and held on to the lead to bagged their first win of the season.

The Knights actually struck first and held a hefty lead with a 10-run first inning, but the Ayuyus climbed their way out of the hole with an eight-run second inning. The Ayuyus then added three more in the third inning, but the Knights retook the lead at the bottom of the third with three runs as well. The Ayuyus just toughed it out with patience in the last inning and stole their first win.

Then, in a rain-shortened game after, Marianas High School varsity beat Saipan International School, 17-4.

Last Monday’s game between Saipan Southern High School and KHS was postponed due to inclement weather.

Also last Monday, the season opener of the NMIFA-PSS Co-ed Elementary Interscholastic Soccer League 2024-2025 was postponed due to inclement weather as well. Updates regarding make-up dates will be provided at a later time.
