Kanoa, Latte to face off in U17 boys finals

Kanoa Football Club and Latte Football club are squaring off in the finals of the U17 boys division this Saturday in the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Spring 2024.

Both teams won their semis matches last Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Kanoa claimed the first playoff spot after blanking MP United FC, 1-0.

It was a level playing field as both teams controlled the ball well in the first half. A lot of near misses and missed opportunities made the first half a scoreless one on both ends. But it changed when Kanoa regrouped and found an opening in the 41st by Tyler Omelau to get them on board, 1-0.

MP United staged a comeback thereafter, but it would not be successful as Kanoa’s defense had an iron-clad grip on the pitch. In the end, MP United’s efforts had nothing to show for as they conceded the finals spot to Kanoa.

Latte then slipped past Matansa FC, 2-1.

The first half was good to Latte as they made plays that resulted in goals. Zhi Xiang Lin opened up the game in the 19th minute as he scored the first goal for the early advantage.

Matansa quickly worked to get back into it and in 11 minutes, reaped the fruit of their labor as MD Arif Hossain Khan tied it up, 1-1.

The first half came and went quietly and it was still anybody’s game at that point, but Lin still had a trick up his cleat. In the 64th minute, he scored the 2nd goal which eventually won them the match as Matansa failed to draw up another one.

U17 girls division

In the U17 girls division, Kanoa is facing off against MP United this Saturday.

Kanoa overpowered Shirley’s, 8-0, last Saturday and grabbed the first finals spot.

Kanoa controlled the pitch from the get-go without giving Shirley’s a break. The game quickly became one sided as they scored six goals within 24 minutes—five made by Ye Lynn Ha and one by Beatrice Gross.

Two more would score in the second half by Aubrey White and Elikristiana Iglecias, for their eventual 8-0 win.

MP United then sealed their finals fate against Paire, 4-1.

MP United had the advantage early as Ella Hall scored in the 23rd minute to set the tone for her team. Teammate Fiona Regan would follow suit just five minutes later to make it 2-0.

Paire couldn’t catch a break and before they could even get one on the board, MP United added two more from Addalee Taflinger for a 4-0 game. Paire’s Kaye Anne Costales finally found the back of the net, but by then it was too late to play catch up as time ran out.

U14 boys division

In the U14 boys division, MP United will go up against Latte FC.

MP United shutdown Matansa, 7-1 in the semis and punched their ticket into the finals.

MP United bombarded Matansa’s goal early on and before even the 24th minute, they’ve already scored all of their seven goals. Quido Jambor contributed one, while Taiga Namai-Scoggins and Landon Springer put up three each.

Meanwhile, the only goal by Matansa was made by Rhyane Umali in the 38th minute.

Latte, on the other hand, beat Kanoa FC 1, 2-0.

Latte’s Kian Estolas found the back of the net just a minute into the game. They kept their momentum up throughout and in the 25th, Tanner McClure made it 2-0. Kanao couldn’t recover and conceded.

U14 girls division

Kanoa girls in the U14 division is taking on Shirley’s in the finals.

Kanoa first silenced MP United, 6-0, in the semis.

Kanoa’s Aubrey White scored a hat-trick and put them up, 3-0, in the 16th minute. Teammate Beatrice Gross contributed one in the 24th, then Ye Lynn Ha scored their sixth goal later in the 37th minute. MP United, tried as they might, could not get on the scoreboard.

Then, Shirley’s outplayed Latte, 3-1.

Shirley’s Alyssa Borlongan broke the ice in the 21st minute, then immediately followed it up four minutes later to put them up, 2-0.

Then, Latte’s Xyriel Pascual chipped away at the lead with a goal three minutes later for a 1-2 game. But Darshwana Chhetri gave Shirley’s an extra goal in the 36th minute and they managed to keep the lead and win, 3-1.

U12 boys division

In the youngest division, Kanoa 1’s U12 boys is challenging MP United in the finals.

Kanoa 1 took care of business against Matansa, 6-2 in the semis.

Kanoa’s Aldric Antonio completed the hat-trick before the 19th minute mark and added one more in the 36th minute. Teammates Benaiah Murphy and Eric Palacios Jr. collected a goal each.

For Matansa, Lashwan Lizama scored their team’s two goals by the 13th minute. They could not get any more after.

Meanwhile, MP United claimed the last finals spot after they blanked Kanoa 2. 6-0.

MP United’s Evan Poole and Quido Jambor scored a goal each, while Mateo Angeles and Kanoa Owens kicked in two goals each.
