Knights prance past Chacha, 15-14
Mount Carmel School Knights put on their best dancing shoes and pranced past Chacha Ocean View Middle School, 15-14, in their game that was filled with rhythm, finesse, and dramatic twists and turns in the PSS-NMI Softball Association Interscholastic Boys Middle School Fast Pitch Softball League 2024-2025 last Saturday at the Dandan Middle School softball field.
It takes two to tango and the Knights found themselves tangled up with a tough Lancherus team throughout the game. The Lancherus took the first step and scored nine runs for a huge 10-0 lead at the end of the top of the first inning.
The Knights didn’t bow just yet though as their offense replied quickly and erased COVMS’ hard work after scoring eight consecutive runs to get within two, 8-10. The Lancherus then picked up their pitcher, Jayton Dela Cruz, with three runs in the second to extend their lead once more, 13-8.
The Knights could only conjure up one run at the bottom of the second for a 9-13 game. However, after COVMS slipped and fell in order during the third inning, the Knights found their groove and choreographed a comeback that would leave the Lancherus breathless.
MCS’ Soli Maratita, Jaze San Nicolas, David Camacho, and Gunshiro Sasamoto all got on base with well-orchestrated hits and a walk, and saved their best moves for last.
Leighton Tenorio stepped up to the plate and with one swing of the bat, he hit a homer that drew cheers and applause from their dugout and supporters as they turned the lead in their favor, 14-13. One more run would score from Donald Tagabuel and they boasted a two-run lead, 15-13.
The pace quickened too fast for the Lancherus, but a solo shot by Kaipo Camacho kept them close, 14-15. However, they could not advance the rest of their baserunners, and with this misstep, the Knights’ pitching staff drew the curtain on the Lancherus, holding on to secure a 15-14 victory.
In other results that day, Tanapag Middle School Tatagas retained their undefeated record with a win over Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Napu Riders, 5-2; and Hopwood Middle School Hilitais trounced DMS, 11-7.
Yesterday’s games were postponed to a later date due to rain.
