Lady Dolphins win 2 soccer matches in a row
Marianas High School Lady Dolphins won two matches in a row in the NMIFA-PSS Girls High School Interscholastic Soccer League 2023-2024 last Tuesday and Thursday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
In last Tuesday’s game, MHS beat Saipan International School, 4-2, for a 2-1-0 record. It was a tough matchup, but the Lady Dolphins found more openings in SIS’ defense that they capitalized on.
Raven Anderson flew through the pitch and scored early in the fourth minute to get MHS’ momentum going. SIS’ Irin Chung then made for a quick push and it paid off as they evened the game up, 1-1, just four minutes later.
Tamia Kileleman-Hix found the net in the 15th minute, but Audrey Castro scored a minute later to tie the game up again, 2-2. It was all or nothing for MHS, and with both team’s undefeated record on the line, the pressure was on.
Anderson went on to take the lead back again in the 17th minute and that was all they could put on the board in the first half. The second half came and with the Lady Dolphins still in the lead, they carried their momentum and held on to the win as Kaye Ann Costales notched the fourth and final goal in the 31st minute.
Last Thursday, the Lady Dolphins outscored Saipan Southern High School Lady Mantas, 8-2.
The Lady Dolphins got their feet wet first as Rizza Relucio found the back of the net early in the sixth minute. A back-and-forth on the pitch ensued as both teams fought for possession, and time whittled away before another goal would score.
In the 19th minute, Anderson added another on the board for the Lady Dolphins for a 2-0 lead. They enjoyed that lead for only three minutes as SSHS’ Rosie Saralu scorched one through for a 1-2 game.
Relucio extended the lead in the 28th minute, but Saralu answered quickly and the game was at 3-2. However, Relucio went on a hot-streak and completed the hat-trick in the 35th minute, followed by back-to-back goals by Kileleman-Hix—who went on to complete the second hat-trick for the team—and another goal by Anderson.
With Anderson, Kileleman-Hix, and Relucio on the MHS roster is Beatrice Arkoh, Susana Arkoh, Kaye Anne Costales, Anna Dalusung, Ella Hall, Alana Hayes, Vianca Mangulabnan, Iris Rasa, Fiona Regan, Tiana Torres, and Vaniqa Torres.
In other results last Tuesday, Saipan Southern High School outscored Kagman High School, 4-2; and last Thursday, Saipan International School routed KHS, 9-2.
