MHS, SIS lead boys v-ball heading into playoffs
Marianas High School Dolphins and Saipan International School Geckos lead the NMIVA-Public School System Boys High School Volleyball League 2023-2024 heading into the playoffs after their wins in the last regular season game last Tuesday at the MHS Gymnasium.
The Dolphins came out of the regular season unscathed as they won their eighth game over Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays in two swift sets.
MHS’ rotating roster of Jerome Manzon, Nehemiah Coleman, Yeshaiah Coleman, Kyle Sang Hyun Moon, Mokyang Kim, Juruel Magtalas, Lowell Lumauag, and K.C. Nuyles had a commanding 21-12 win in the first set.
The Manta Rays put up a better fight in the second, but still succumbed to the Dolphins’ stronger offense and unbreakable chemistry. In a pinch, the Dolphins kept their undefeated record with a 21-14 final set win.
In one of the final games of the night, the Geckos stuck the landing with their seventeen win as they defeated Grace Christian Academy Eagles in also two fast sets.
SIS’ powerful overhead spikes and overpowering kills allowed them to scoop up the first set, 21-11. They took their momentum in the second set as a much better prepared Eagles team tried to force a tie-breaking third set.
However, SIS’ rotating roster of Omari Joab, Casey Chambers, Sui Yi, Christian Newman, Ian Song, William Sosa, Dwight Crisostomo, and Kyle Kramer dealt the Eagles blow after winning blow.
Before GCA knew what hit them, the Geckos took the second set, 21-12, and solidified their second place spot heading into the playoffs.
In other results that day, MHS III bested SIS II, 21-10, 21-17; Agape Christian School II toughed out three sets against KHS II, 18-21, 21-19, 15-10; MHS II beat SSHS II, 21-11, 21-14; and ACS routed KHS, 21-12, 23-21.
The championship series is set for today, tomorrow, and Saturday at the MHS Gymnasium.

Saipan International School’s Omari Joab delivers a powerful kill past two Grace Christian Academy defenders during their last regular season game last Tuesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium to end the NMIVA-Public School System Boys High School Volleyball League 2023-2024 at 7-1 heading into the playoffs.
