MHS is 2-for-2 in fast pitch

Marianas High School Dolphins varsity fastpitch softball team has won their second game in a row in the Inaugural PSS-NMI Softball Association Interscholastic Boys High School Fast Pitch Softball League.

They collected their second win in as many games over Kagman High School JV, 15-13, last Monday before a downpour of rain at the Dandan Softball Field.

The Dolphins got off to a slow start with just two runs in by the third inning, while it was the complete opposite for KHS JV.

The Ayuyus started off hot, but cooled down when it mattered the most at the end. They collected seven runs by the second for a 7-1 lead, then added another in the third for an 8-2 ball game.

Then, the Dolphins came back in the fourth inning after Vinco Norita and Ramon Sablan put two up on the board. They added eight more in the fifth from runs by almost the whole lineup—Jake Aguon, Joel Cabrera, Thomas Chong, Mychel Deleon Guerrero, Norita, Sablan, Ben, and Trey Otobed, for a 12-10 game.

The rally didn’t diminish the Ayuyus’ confidence though as they scored two from Kallan and Avenbert at the bottom of the fifth to tie it up, 12-12.

But the bottom of the lineup proved to be the game changer for the Dolphins as Norita, Ben, and Otobed manufactured three runs in the last inning to untie the knotted up ball game, 15-12. It was enough to secure their second win as their pitcher held down the Ayuyus to just one run in their last at-bat for a 13-15 final.

Organizers did not provide last names for the KHS JV team.

If weather permits, the next games are scheduled for tomorrow at 9am between the KHS varsity and Mount Carmel School, with the second game at 10:30am between MHS and Saipan International School.

The championship rounds are slated for Oct. 10-12.
