Man faces $10K bail after threatening woman with machete
The Superior Court imposed a $10,000 cash bail on a man who allegedly threatened a woman with a machete.
Carl C. Aldan, 27, appeared before Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho at the Superior Court in Susupe last Friday, where charges of assault, disturbing the peace, and assault with a dangerous weapon were filed against him.
According to court documents, the victim had called the police after Aldan threatened to kill her while swinging a machete close to her face.
A preliminary hearing was set for Aldan on Aug. 14, 2024 at 10am, and an arraignment on Aug. 19, 2024 at 9am, where he will appear with appointed public defense attorney Molly Dennert. Chief prosecutor Chester Hinds will represent the CNMI government. Aldan was remanded back to the custody of the Department of Corrections until his next hearing.
According to court documents on Aug. 6, 2024, at about 5:16am, police officers were dispatched to a reported case of disturbing the peace at an apartment in China Town. At about 5:24am, a police officer was flagged down by a female individual who was crying and carrying a baby, saying “Take him in. He’s holding a machete.” The female individual was later identified as the victim in the case. The victim informed the officer that the man, identified as Aldan, pointed a machete at her and that he had drugs. The officer asked her if she knew what type of drugs to which she responded “like crystallized.” The officer noticed that the victim was having a hard time talking, as she was breathing fast, shaking and crying, so the officer requested medical assistance for her. Two more police officers later arrived at the scene where they entered the victim’s apartment to check on Aldan.
The officer interviewed the vicim and she stated that she woke up around 3:30am, to use the restroom. She stated that when she came out of the restroom, she saw Aldan’s cell phone and a black pouch on the table. The victim, curious to know what was inside, opened the black pouch and saw three clear small Ziploc bags with a crystallized substance, cotton balls, and a pipe. The victim also opened up his cell phone and started going through his messages where she saw conversations about money and also about having a one-night stand with a girl. The victim said that she then started scrolling through Aldan’s phone and saw a picture of Aldan taking a picture of the content of his case. The victim said that Aldan then came out of the bedroom holding a machete with his right hand. He told her “don’t look at my stuff, f*** you, I am going to kill you” while swinging the machete toward her. He then hit the chair with the machete, then went into the bedroom and came back out telling her to get in the room.
According to the report, the victim said that while she was in the bedroom sitting down beside her newborn daughter, Aldan sat in front of her and pointed the machete towards her face and said “f*** you, don’t touch my stuff.” The victim laid down on the bed with her newborn baby in the middle while Aldan was on the other side still holding the machete. She further stated to officers that she waited for Aldan to fall asleep and then called 911. After the call, she grabbed her newborn baby and walked out of the room silently, and waited for police to arrive. The victim stated that she was scared for her life and her daughter.
At about 5:37am, the Department of Fire & Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and treated the victim. At around 5:44am, Aldan was arrested by police officers for disturbing the peace, assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, and domestic violence. Aldan was transported to Corrections where he was booked and detained.
