The NMI Superior Court placed a $10,000 bail on a man accused of abusing a man’amko yesterday at the court in Susupe.
Following his arrest, Daniel Kintaro Santos, 48, appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho yesterday for his bail hearing. Santos is facing charges of domestic violence, disturbing the peace, assault and battery, and elderly or man’amko abuse.
His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 16 at 10am and arraignment on Oct. 21 at 9am. Attorney Katie Comstock was assigned to represent Santos and assistant attorney general David Karch will be representing the government. Santos was remanded back into the custody of the Department of Corrections to await his hearing.
Court documents show that on Oct. 3, 2024, Department of Public Safety police officers were dispatched to a reported man’amko abuse in As Matuis. A female caller requested that responding officers check on her sister a 63-year-old female, who is also as the report states “disabled.” At about 6:07pm, officers were flagged down by a male individual identified as Daniel K. Santos who was with his wife and another female individual who refused to be identified. The victim who was in a wheelchair, was unable to stand or move around without the help of others. The women in the car were both related to Santos. Santos then stated that he was expecting the police because he received a call from officers asking for directions to his residence.
Shortly after the arrival of the police, the woman who originally called the cops arrived at the residence. The woman called a family member living in the U.S. mainland and gave the phone to the officer. According to the family member in the states, she called the victim earlier that day to check in on her, and the victim told her that Santos was abusing her and hitting her with objects around the house, such as coconut broom or a towel. The victim also mentioned that Santos would drop her onto the thin foam mattress in her room. The woman confronted Santos and asked if what the victim was saying was true, she told police that he admitted to it saying, “Yes, I do hit her.” She then notified the initial caller about the abuse.
Police reports indicate that the victim in a very faint tone almost like a whisper told officers saying, “[He] is very brutal. He would hit me with the coconut broom and towel. Like this one,” while pointing to the medium-sized towel that was resting on her shoulder. She gave a demonstration and said, “He hits me like this with the towel very hard. He would push me into the room and would shout at me to stay in there. He would leave me for an hour, come back, and push me out of the room.” The victim. further stated that the last incident was about a week ago but she couldn’t remember what happened,
On the same day Santos was arrested and advised of his Miranda Rights. He was escorted to DOC where he was booked and detained.

Facing charges of assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and abusing a man’amko, Daniel Kintaro Santos walks to his bail hearing yesterday morning at the NMI Superior Court in Susupe.
