Manta Ray Battalion takes part in DVAM Walk
The Saipan Southern High School Manta Ray Battalion showed support to survivors and victims of domestic violence by taking part in the Purple Wave, Walk, and Roll event last Thursday.
The Manta Ray cadets joined the Marianas High School Dolphin Battalion and Kagman High School Ayuyu Battalion in a roadside waving before starting the mile-long walk around San Vicente in commemorating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The Manta Ray Battalion led the way for the other JROTC battalions and event volunteers while reciting cadences loud and proud. Once the march was finished the cadets were provided with fruits and water.
“We got to march alongside the other schools while showing support to the victims of domestic violence and contribute back to our community,” said C/SSG David Xing.
C/SSG Niana Mad said she really enjoyed the DVAM Walk.
“I was super happy we were able to participate in it. In my opinion, our presence that day gave us time to reflect on things that go on around the world. As a teenager of this generation, when I experience these event I start thinking about it and realize I have a voice that I can use to talk about these problems we are having and see that I and anyone else can make a difference.”
C/2LT Ashley Villagomez echoed what Mad said. “Thought it was very cool to be able to walk around San Vicente and spread awareness about domestic violence.”
The Manta Ray Battalion is glad to have participated in this year’s Purple Wave, Walk, and Roll event as well as to be able to showcase its support and spread awareness throughout the community on the matter of domestic violence.
