Maui tops YOSGC Championship
Wil “Paki” Maui won the annual Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe Championship last Saturday, Dec. 2, in sunny and windy conditions at the Coral Ocean Resort golf course.
The former bodybuilder, who also won in 2017, was in complete control of his powerful game, shooting a steady net 71 to pip runner-up Michael “26” Deary, who finished with a strong 73 despite coming to grief at hole 17, where valiantly he fought the back left greenside bunker, but the bunker won.
But there was no grief for Maui. The new champion golfer of the year triumphantly accepted the Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe’s perpetual claret jug and champion’s jacket from last year’s champ Greg “Fossil” Koebel, and the prize money from club treasurer Richard “Caddy Dipper” Miller at the awards dinner held at Wild Bill’s Bar and Grill.
Other participants in the championship were Timothy “Tex” Brasuell; “Double” Dan Harding; and Koebel, who finished in a three-way tie for third at 76; Curt “Kracker” Petersen; Caddy Dipper; and Bill “Supersandy” Riggen. (PR)
