NMTech, Atkins Kroll partner to boost local workforce

In an effort toward enhancing vocational education in the CNMI and signifying their commitment to bolstering the local workforce, the Northern Marianas Technical Institute partnered with Atkins Kroll Saipan to provide automotive students a place to practice what they learned at the institute.

Representatives of NMTech and AK Saipan met and signed a memorandum of understanding last July 29 at the latter’s office along Beach Road.

With Inchcape Groups’ AK being the leading automotive dealership for Toyota and Lexus vehicles across the CNMI, the partnership will provide NMTech’s automotive students with invaluable hands-on training opportunities and address the pressing need for qualified automotive technicians in the region.

Under the terms of the MOU, NMTech students will participate in internships at AK’s state-of-the-art dealership facility. The internships are designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, allowing students to work alongside seasoned professionals on cutting-edge automotive technologies. The collaboration aims to enhance the students’ skill sets and prepare them for successful careers in the automotive industry.

“We are incredibly excited about this partnership with Atkins Kroll,” said Jodina Attao, CEO of NMTech. “This MOU represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide top-tier vocational training that meets the needs of both our students and the local community. By working closely with industry leaders like AK Saipan, we can ensure our students are well-prepared for successful careers.”

The partnership conveys the shared commitment of NMTech and AK Saipan to invest in the future of the automotive industry and the local economy. It is expected to serve as a model for similar collaborations between educational institutions and businesses, highlighting the importance of practical training in vocational education.

“AK is very excited to partner with NMTech to provide our youth with hands-on training to further develop their skill sets and industry knowledge,” said AK Saipan general manager Clark Boswell. “This partnership is a strong testament to our commitment here in the NMI. Our youth will have the opportunity to intern in our new Toyota and Lexus facility in Puerto Rico, where they will learn in a state-of-the-art facility with world-class equipment. Having served our island for more than 50 years, it is very rewarding to be able to give back to our community by aiding the development of our talent right here in the CNMI.”
