Nick Reyes rules A Flight in Joeten Memorial Golf Classic
Nick Reyes ruled the A Flight of the 2024 Joeten Memorial Golf Classic last Saturday at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
He shot his way to the lowest gross score of 3-over 75. He racked up two birdies in holes No. 5 and No. 10. In the back nine, he parred on all holes besides hole No. 10 and No. 11, which was a bogey, for a score of 37.
A distant second place was PC Wu with a gross score of 82, while third place was Dominic Siebenthal with a gross score of 83.
The 52-year-old said his game in this tournament was the best he’s had so far, with his favorite hole, hole No. 10 in which he hit a birdie. He said wasn’t expecting to win, yet he did, so he was happy with the result. “I was looking at the board and no one was right behind me or in front of me, so okay, I’ll take it,” he said.
As for the tournament, he said, “Joeten’s tournament is pretty awesome. It’s a different tournament because they have a lot of prizes and I guess that’s what brings out a lot of people to play.”
He then said that the tournament director, Peter “Dung” Tenorio, is a member of the golf club he’s in, the Amigos Golf Club, and that they also came out in support of him.
Tenorio, during the awards ceremony, thanked the tourney’s sponsors and all the clubs that came out to support the event. “Thank you all for coming out. We really wanted to put on a nice event for you guys since we play the same course 365 days a year. We kind of changed the format and I hope this year, you guys enjoyed it,” he said.
He added, “we couldn’t have done it without all the volunteers and of course our board members.”
Every milestone year, the Joeten DaiDai Foundation hosts the JMGC to help support various causes and non-profit organizations within the CNMI. This year, the JMGC was held on the 75th anniversary of Joeten and the late Jose Camacho Tenorio’s 101st birthday.
Meanwhile, winners in other divisions of the tournament will be reported in the next issues of Saipan Tribune.

Winner of the A Flight, Nick Reyes, center, poses with his trophy and Joeten Daidai Foundation’s Shigeki Tenorio, left, and tournament director Peter “Dung” Tenorio during the awards ceremony of the 2024 Joeten Memorial Golf Classic last Saturday at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort.
