OG Aces defeat Triple L, 90-71

OG Aces defeated Triple L/Tax Pro, 90-71, in the continuation of the NMIBF Masters Preseason Basketball League last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Triple L/Tax Pro put the first score on the board in the first two minutes of action, but their lead wouldn’t last too long as the OG Aces shot in their first 2 points.

Their lead wouldn’t last too long either because soon after Triple L/Tax Pro added 3 more points on the board. OG Aces then fired up the furnace to match their score.

Triple L/Tax Pro wouldn’t remain dominant for long and as the game progressed their score didn’t get far higher, as OG Aces kept a motivated defensive stance. With a minute left in the second quarter, the score was pegged at 18-10 with OG Aces in the lead. With just seconds remaining on the clock OG Aces secured a 10-point advantage over their opponent.

Coming into the second quarter, OG Aces continued to thwart attempts from Triple L/Tax Pro and their sharpshooter Sonny Lerio who carried most of the team’s offensive load.

Entering the fourth quarter, OG Aces was in complete control, 69-39. Triple L/Tax Pro, however, gassed up and began to hoop more with Lerio even connecting on three 3-pointers in a row.

But even after putting up a good fight, as the game clock wound down, players on each team began slowing down. Triple L/Tax Pro also seemed to accept the impending loss, as they didn’t seem to mind defending OG Aces’ drives to the hoop.

The Mutt-and-Jeff combination of Jawn Joyner and Mike Surima led the now 2-3 OG Aces with 26 and 22 points, respectively. Lerio, meanwhile, led all scorers with 29 markers for the 1-4 Triple L/Tax Pro.

OG Aces 90 – Joyner 26, Surima 22, Natividad 18, Borja 7, Saures 6, Yarofir 6, Albert 3, Rangamar 2.

Triple L/Tax Pro 71 – Lerio 29, Embile 10, Pineda 8, Laxamana 8, Usi 8, Dimafelix 8.

Scoring by quarters: 20-12, 46-27, 69-39, 90-71.
