Over 600 participate in Easter Egg Hunt at JKPL
Dozens of families gathered for the Easter Fun Day at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in Susupe last Thursday to participate in a pre-Easter egg hunt, a mini-carnival and prizes that brought smiles to the faces of many children.
Hosted by the JKPL, the event was collaborative effort between the library, the First Lady Wella Palacios, Friends of the JKPL, and Bridge Capital.
With dozens of kids joining the egg hunt, the hunts were divided into four groups based on age, including a round for those with special needs. Coinciding with the multiple egg hunts, the event also featured food and drink vendors, carnival games of plinko, ring toss, corn hole, and indoor basketball; not to forget a bunch of other fun activities such as best decorated eggs, arts and crafts, and face painting.
One of the mothers in attendance, Mary Jane Tenorio, said she is grateful for events like these she could bring her 2-year-old son.
“It’s really good, especially for the younger ones. It gives them an opportunity to get out there socially, helping them to meet more kids, make friends while having fun. Also, events like these are really just a fun thing for the community to come out to enjoy. Really, really awesome.”
She thanks the event’s sponsors and host: “Thank you for putting this event together, and I hope you have more, so I can come, and bring my son.”
JKPL director Erlinda Naputi is delighted at the success of their Easter Fun Day. “We had over 200 registered egg hunt participants, and a combined total of 650 families visited the library and enjoyed the mini-carnival. We grouped our participants into five age categories, including a special group for children with special needs, families with disabilities, and children aged 0-16.”
Naputi said the event was made possible through the partnership of the First Lady Wella Palacios, Bridge Capital LLC, and the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, as well as the support of the Department of Corrections, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, Lt. Gov. David Apatang, Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho, JKPL’s student volunteers, AmeriCorp, Co-Op, and “the parents and children who came out to celebrate the Easter event with us.”
