PSS suspends classes today; TD Bebinca passes Guam

The CNMI Public School System has cancelled all classes today due to Tropical Depression Bebinca.

“In an effort to prioritize the safety and protection of our students, all PSS classes (including Head Start/Early Head Start and Early Intervention programs) are canceled today, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024. All PSS Central Office, programs, and school-level employees must still report to work today, Sept. 11, 2024, except for 190-day contracted employees, as well as instructional staff,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam said based on Guam’s radar at 4am, it looks like Tropical Depression Bebinca passed over southern Guam around 3am and is now starting to move west of Apra Harbor, Guam. Guam International Airport and Andersen AFB have been reporting winds around 28-35 mph, with gusts around 43 to 50 mph in the very heavy showers. Up at Saipan’s airport winds were around 22-26 mph with gusts around 35 to 45 mph in heavier showers.

NWS said they also have a Flash Flood Warning out for Guam until 9am this morning. Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

Heavy showers and winds will be slow to decrease as a monsoonal pattern develops as TD Bebinca moves west of the Marianas.
