Pickleball clinic, run class for beginners this Saturday

Life in the Son Christian Fellowship is celebrating its 26th anniversary this month with a bevy of sports and health activities tomorrow, Nov. 16, 7:30am-11:30am at the Marianas High School campus.

It starts with a pickleball beginners’ class for all ages. There will be coaches from LITS, Pickleball Federation of the NMI, and other community members who will teach the basics of the fastest growing sport in the U.S., including rules and scoring.

Participants are encouraged to sign up in the Google form to choose a timeslot from 7:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am, 10:30am, and 11am. They also need to sign the waiver at https://forms.gle/ez91ENRtC7uiQPep7.

There will also be a run/walk clinic for beginners. Called “From Zero to Hero,” the clinic will be hosted by Run Saipan.

“If anyone is interested on learning how to start running, proper mechanics, and injury prevention please come to the clinic. We will cover over proper shoe selection as well and exercises to strengthen for running. This clinic is not for intermediate or advance runners. If you want to run a 5:00/mile please contact Dr. Ron Snyder or Mr. Robin Sapong. This clinic is for people that want to start running or improve as a beginner,” said Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr.

The LITS event will also feature free health screening (blood pressure and blood glucose) by the NMC Nursing Club and LITS volunteers as well as free eye screening by Marianas Eye Clinic.

LITS pastor Eric A. Abragan said the community outreach has adopted the theme “Don’t Sugarcoat it! Beat Diabetes!—Move More” and is in collaboration with the Diabetes Awareness Month organizing committee and various community partners to help fight against the non-communicable disease.

“We believe in wholistic approach to health. Healthy living involves healthy mind, body and spirit. This outreach is just one way to help us and our community toward healthier living,” he said.

Abragan said the next day, on Sunday, Nov. 17, he is also inviting the community to celebrate with LITS at Grandvrio Resort Saipan’s Fiesta Hall, starting at 9:30am. Lunch will follow at the beach after the Sunday worship celebration with Mark Benavente, senior pastor of LITS Guam, serving as guest speaker.
