SIS teams notch wins in girls HS v-ball

Saipan International School Lady Geckos girls volleyball teams won both of their games in the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Girls High School Volleyball League 2023-2024 last Tuesday night at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

SIS II first won against Saipan Southern High School Lady Mantas in two sets.

The Lady Geckos’ communication with their bumps and returns proved pivotal to their easy wins against the Lady Mantas, 21-14, 21-12.

The Lady Mantas’ two teams have yet to win this season and it was their lack of communication that was their downfall in most of their games.

Multiple returns and serves by the Lady Geckos’ rotation of Kaylie Claveria, Kassidy Camacho, Morgan Finco, Stacey Arriola, Irene Park, Jeongbin Park, Ziting Wu, Eva Lizunova, Hoo Wang, and Irin Chung went unanswered as the Lady Mantas were unsure in their feet.

Whilst the Lady Mantas kept their fighting spirit up through the whole game, it wasn’t enough to catch up to the ever-ballooning lead of the Lady Geckos in both sets.

SIS’ varsity team then defeated Agape Christian School later in the evening, also in two sets.

The Lady Geckos’ Aubrey Castro, Audrey Castro, Kaihtlyn Chavez, Julie Chavez, Euanne Kyra Claveria, Martha Culp, Phoenix Gross, Serin Chung, Yelin Park, SeoHee Lee, and Sophie Brasuell made it through the first set in a nail-biting 21-16 final.

At the start of the second set, they came back better and neutralized ACS with their anticipation, great saves, and more accurate kills, for a much easier time, 21-11.

In other results, MHS II defeated MCS II, 21-19, 21-14; Grace Christian Academy put up a tough fight against SSHS in three sets, 18-21, 21-19, 15-9; ACS II beat MHS III, 21-18, 21-17; and MHS edged MCS, 21-16, 21-18.
