SNILD confirms Jang to Zoning Board

The Saipan & Northern Islands Legislative Delegation has confirmed the nomination of Steve Jang to serve on the Commonwealth Zoning Board.

Last week, the Saipan & Northern Islands Legislative Delegation held a special session to rule on Jang’s nomination to serve as part of the Commonwealth Zoning board.

With all 17 members of the delegation voting yes, the motion to adopt the standing committee report to confirm Jang to serve as a member of the zoning board passed.

With the delegation’s confirmation, Jang will be representing the Third Senatorial District on the Zoning Board.

In a previous statement from the Plumeria Steak House and Ete Cafe owner, he said he is grateful for a chance to give back to the community.

“I’m both honored and humbled to have this opportunity. I’m exceedingly grateful and elated with the opportunity to give back to the community. I have owned and operated small businesses for 30 years here in the CNMI. Due to my business, I have interacted with the CNMI Zoning office many times. Through these experiences, I became familiar with the Zoning process and the Zoning Board. I can say with confidence that Zoning is an integral part of the Commonwealth’s economic infrastructure,” he said.

Jang said as part of the Zoning Board, he pledges to do his best ensure that Zoning provides efficient and streamlined services to help business owners function in the CNMI economy

“Every business on Saipan must go through the Zoning office to obtain zoning permit to get a business license. The Zoning process implicates numerous issues that impact businesses such as land use, conditional use, landscaping, parking, signage, urban planning, among other things. This is why it is vitally important that the Zoning Board is comprised of people who understand the ins and out of the Zoning office. Over the years, I have had many interactions with Zoning. It is very important as this office is a major function of the CNMI. I believe it is a requisite to be an effective member of the Zoning Board,” he said.
