SUFC win two in TakeCare youth soccer start
With the return of soccer season in the CNMI, two Southern United Football Clubs debuted strong with a win each in the start of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2023 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville last Saturday.
In the 14U girls division, SUFC slipped past Kanoa FC, 2-1.
SUFC’s Rosie Saralu drew first blood four minutes in, but the game was immediately tied after a knock by Kanoa’s Yelynn Ha.
Minutes went by without another goal, then SUFC Selena Atalig delivered the tie-breaking and eventual winning goal in the 13th minute. Kanoa could not find their footing and eventually time expired to hand the win to SUFC.
The other SUFC team in the 12U boys division blanked their opponents, Paire FC, 3-0.
A flurry of back-to-back-to-back goals within the same minute secured SUFC’s win as Paire could not get past their goalie.
Ele Mettao first found the back of the net, followed by Napu Pangelinan, then the third goal was made by Alejandro Morales.
In other results, MP United’s 17U girls team won a lopsided 10-2 match against Shirley’s FC; Kanoa FC’s 17U girls team blanked Paire FC, 17-0; the 14U girls of Kanoa FC 2 won over Shirley’s FC, 3-1; Latte FC (formerly Tan Holdings FC), defeated Paire FC, 3-0, in the 14U girls division; 14U boys of Kanoa FC and MP United FC ended in a scoreless draw; MP United FC 2’s 14U boys slipped past Matansa FC, 3-2; Kanoa FC 2’s 14U boys outscored Shirley’s FC, 17-0; Matansa overpowered Shirley’s FC, 5-0, in the 12U boys division; Latte FC won against Matansa FC, 4-1, in the 17U boys division; and MP United and Kanoa FC ended in a 2-2 draw in the 17U boys division.
