Shane, Billie finish with a flourish
Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez and Billie Inabo Pangelinan capped the 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series with a flourish after dominating anew their divisions in Round 8 last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Park.
Aboard his 2023 Kawasaki 250F, Alvarez topped the Expert Class by winning both heats for 50 points. Coming in second to the 30-year-old Financial & Insurance Services Group staff was Marianas Racing Association president Ellery Cruz with 42 points, while Corry Pangelinan came in third with his 40 points.
“It was a nice sunny and really hot day that made for a great finale to our season. The track was dry for the most part but not super dusty because of the rain that’s been happening at the beginning of the week. It was nice to have a dry track where we can really go fast because the last two races were really muddy and slippery. It made for some exciting battles all around to end the season,” said Alvarez.
He also commended MRA for combining all the classes in the last two rounds of the 2024 season as it made it a lot more exciting with more riders on the track.
“I love riding and racing and I always give my all on the track. I try to be as smooth but aggressive as possible every lap and if I see an opportunity to pass, I take it. The track is really fun because you can take many lines to attempt a pass when battling. I’d like to dedicate my win for in finale to my sponsors and my friends and family that support me. I owe all thanks to God for keeping me and everyone else safe throughout the year and also to my dad, Cuki Alvarez, as he’s my mentor, training partner, and mechanic all rolled into one and none of this would be possible without his help year in and year out,” said the younger Alvarez.
He also dedicated his win to his son, Styles Justis Shane Jr., as well as sponsors Trench Tech Racing, 4evercnmi, Cycles Plus Guam, and the whole MRA board and community “for making this possible and a blast for the past four years!”
The younger Alvarez said he practice as much as four times a month depending on the weather and other factors. He also took note that his Round 8 win is his last race as a 30-year-old as he turns 31 soon.
Next up for Alvarez after the 2024 season is to defend his title for the TurkeyCross against Guam in November.
Billie Inabo Pangelinan, meanwhile, proved to all and sundry that she’s in a class by herself by topping again the Women’s Class with another perfect score of 50 points while riding her Yamaha 250f. Mari Alvarez was second with her 42 points, while Sheanna Pangelinan wound up third with the same 42 points but finished third in the second heat.
“It was a sunny day and the course was dry and slippery. I would like to dedicate this win to everyone who had helped and guided me throughout my experience with this sport! I would like to thank my team’s sponsors, Ralph DLG Torres (tent donations), Guy Pudney (MARPAC drink donations), Inas Kitchen, YCO True Value, 670 Rock Steady, TurnKey solutions, and the ERICCO Racing team,” said Pangelinan, a student at Saipan Southern High School.
In the Power Puff Girls, Miyako Celis slaid once more with 50 points, followed by Hiromi Sasamoto and Kesiil Camacho with 44 and 40 points, respectively.
