Shirley’s, Kanoa chomp on foes in TYSL

Shirley’s Football Club and Kanoa FC chomped on their foes in their respective divisions of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2024 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville last Saturday.

Shirley’s U12 boys team maneuvered the pitch well and won, 3-1, over Paire FC.

It was a strong start to the matchup with Shirley’s quickly stirring the pot and scoring a goal just a minute in from the cleat of Jeno Pino. Paire tried to weave through and create some plays and it paid off with a conversion in the 17th by Casmiro Cosmes to knot it all up, 1-1.

It was anybody’s game at this point as they both tried to break up the tie. Both teams attacked and barraged each other’s territory with no result until Shirley’s Jpiel Calsita put them up, 2-1, in the 30th minute. Pino then ensured them some insurance goal just a couple minutes later for a 3-1 game.

Paire’s attempts at the goal from then were hasty and they were unable to deliver as Shirley’s defenses didn’t allow them any more access to their keeper.

In the U14 girls division, Kanoa held on to win, 3-2, over Shirley’s.

After multiple exchanges on the pitch, Kanoa’s Ye Lynn Ha broke through to put them up, 1-0 in the 15th. Then, a minute later, doubled their advantage as Shirley’s was left scrambling to regroup.

Alyssa Borlongan didn’t take long to find the back of the net and get Shirley’s on board in the 22nd minute for a 1-2 game. Shirley’s tried to rally and had some chances to equalize, but Kanoa’s defenses held to maintain their one goal lead. Then, Cali Cabrera extended their lead in the 37th and made it 3-1.

A couple minutes later, Shirley’s Princess Gariguez landed a goal and cut the lead to one once again, 2-3. However, Shirley’s weren’t able to further produce as time ran out and lost by one.

In other results of the U14 boys division, MP United silenced Kanoa FC 1, 2-0, and Matansa won over Kanoa FC 2 via forfeit; in other results of the U14 girls division, Kanoa slipped past Shirley’s, 3-2, and Latte won over Paire, 5-1.
