Shirley’s blanks MPU Pink for women’s title

Shirley’s Football Club served up a 3-0 finals win over MP United Pink in the championship game of the Flores-Pee Luwal (Intermediate) Spring 2024 Dove Women’s League last Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Shirley’s went right to work and even before MP United Pink got their feet wet, Jeraldine Castillo nipped the net in the second minute to put them up, 1-0. This early goal set the tone for the rest of the game as they kept up their attacks and their defense didn’t give in to a relentless MPU team.

MP United Pink couldn’t catch a break in the first half though, while Shirley’s Mikayla Lopez tacked on another goal for a 2-0 lead.

Heading into the second half, MP United tried to regroup but Shirley’s had only one thing in mind—win the championship. Time slipped away and so did MP United’s chance to score a goal. Shirley’s on the other hand, scored their third goal in the 50th minute off the boot of Marrielle Gariguez.

Try as they might, MP United Pink couldn’t get past Shirley’s keeper and they conceded as Shirley’s put up a clean sheet, 3-0, to win the title.

Shirley’s roster with Lopez, Castillo, and Gariguez included Jhaza Mirano, Melody Johnson, Stephanie Lumbad, Stephanie Lagunero, Angelika Narvaez, Mikky Buno, Kathyryn Sablan, Marielle Lopez, Werrly Breakenridge, Friendly Joy Pena, Marilou Arriola, Kristanna Lim, and Angelica Mia Carreon.

Third place went to Matansa FC after they defeated Latte FC, 4-1.

Latte’s only goal was made 28 minutes in by Naomi Billimon, while Matansa drew first blood in the 14th minute from Barbara Peteru. Jenna Rose Tenorio, Mikaela Duenas, and Peteru went on to score three more goals to solidify their third place win to cap the season.
