Son sashays to November CWGA tourney win

Hyun “Sunny” Son won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s November Monthly Tournament last Nov. 18 at the LaoLao Golf & Resort east course.

It’s the third monthly championship of the year in the CWGA tour for the 55-year-old owner of Boss Karaoke following victories in September and July.

Son fired a net 73 to win the tourney following a 41 in the front nine and a 40 in the back nine for a gross of 81 for the 8-handicapper.

October winner Lydia Tan was two strokes back with a 75 net built around a gross of 94 (44-50), while third place went to Kim Sae Hee with her net 78 (gross 86, 43-43).

Son said she’s happy to have won her third CWGA tournament and shares her success to her fellow members of the only women’s golf club on Saipan.

“The course was good, but the weather wasn’t very good. My driving and putter were good during the tournament. We always finish the tournament and share the joy of winning with the group members. Thank you for my health and happiness with my friends this Thanksgiving,” she said.

A total of 10 CWGA members took a swing on the November tourney and the rest are the following with their net scores in parenthesis: Nirimai Koebel (81); Yuko Togawa (82), Flor Jones (82); Lorraine Babauta (84); Rose Rohringer (85); Dol Yamagishi (87); and Terry Guerrero (98).
