TJ rules Mini II Class anew
T.J. Ferrer overcame a rough start to edge Calix Cruz in the Mini II Class of Round 8 of the 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Park.
The 13-year-old Tanapag Middle School student finished second to Cruz in Heat 1, but then came back to win Heat 2 to finish with 47 points—same as Cruz. As per Marianas Racing Association rules, the winner of the last heat takes the checkered flag in case of ties.
“The weather was sunny and so good and the course was great,” said Ferrer when asked how was race conditions last Sunday.
He then dedicated his Round 8 win to his sister, J.C. “I miss her. She left for the U.S. Navy two weeks ago. I also want to thank my dad and mom, the MRA family, my teammates, Trench Tech Racing, the Villacanas family for always supporting me, and to God for protecting me.”
Ferrer said he fine-tunes his motocross skills by practicing with his Yamaha YZ 85 2-3 times a month at the Marpi motocross course.
In the Novice Class, Matthew Guerrero won both heats for 50 points, while Christian Camacho and Frankie Sablan came in second and third with 44 points and 40 points, respectively.
Anella Igitol, meanwhile, captured the Mini ATV with also a perfect score of 50 points. Payton Pangelinan came in second with 42 points, while Nakoa Torres finished third with the same score but he lost the second heat.
Results of the other classes will be published in the next issues of Saipan Tribune.
