Tom Yum Restaurant moves south

Tom Yum Restaurant resumed its operations last Friday at its new location in San Antonio, less than a month after moving from its old Garapan site.

An eyesore building across Pacific Island Club Saipan was rescued as Tom Yum rehabilitated the building after its lease contract ended on their former location.

According to PK Phommachanh, business consultant and general manager of Tom Yum, after the five-year lease in Garapan ended, he and Tom Yum owner Phannee Regan looked for a new place and they found an empty building located in a tourist area in the southern part of the island.

“We were looking for a location and we just saw how this was empty and we felt like we didn’t want tourists to look for something defunct. We want to show them that there was some liveliness in businesses running so we wanted to kind of close the gap of that,” said Phommachanh.

The move was also made to better serve their customers in the area since most of Tom Yum’s regulars live in Koblerville and San Antonio.

Tom Yum’s new space is the same as their former location—it has a 51-seating capacity and can accommodate up to 100 people. The venue still offers the same activities such as karaoke and electronic darts.

Phommachanh added that Tom Yum currently sponsors 10 dart teams with most of the members living nearby. The restaurant also hosts Marianas Business Network meetings.

Tom Yum just recently partnered with Save the Music Foundation-CNMI’s Voices of the Marianas Singing Competition.

“They’re going to start to gear up their participants to go into audition. So, they’re using this as one of the venues on Wednesdays,” said Phommachanh.

Tom Yum’s dine-in or to-go combo tray for 4-5 people for $20 is still being offered. The everyday lunch buffet from 11am to 2pm resumed last Monday and is priced at $16 for 10 years old and above, $8 for ages 4-9, and free for those below 4 years of age.

Tom Yum is a Thai restaurant that also offers American and Filipino dishes. They are open daily from 10am to 10pm. They accept bookings for any events or parties. For inquiries, call (670) 488-2963 or email phannee.unsa@gmail.com.
