Tuturamz, Tokahao slip past foes in BASA
Tuturamz and Tokahao slipped past their foes in the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association league master’s division last May 5 at the Dandan Softball Field.
Tuturamz had a huge third inning which was the difference-maker in the game as they won, 18-16 over Peliliu. The third inning was a run frenzy as they scored 14 consecutive runs.
Henry Reyes hit the lone homerun in the inning, but RBI doubles and singles brought home runners in scoring position and didn’t let them go to waste. When the dust settled, Tuturamz had a 16-10 lead.
Peliliu relied on the long ball up to this point and Jude Dickinson and Ben Hocog went on to hit one more each in the fourth to get within five, 13-18. However, Peliliu could only score one more in the fifth from Cartfield Sablan and one more in the second by Mark Flores for a 16-18 final.
For Tokahao, they won by one run, 6-5, over Hagu La’mun.
At the top of the sixth, Hagu La’mun’s Richard Quitugua tied the game up, 5-5, but a homer by Tony Benavente later scored the crucial run Tokahao needed to be up by one, 6-5.
Tokahao held on to win as their pitcher Marco Peter retired Hagu La’mun’s lineup in the seventh as they left the winning run on base.
In other results, Wazzup beat the Redmen up, 18-12.
A 9-run third inning by Wazzup allowed them to have a lead throughout the game. All Redmen could do was play catch up and chip away at the lead, but to no avail.
Wazzup’s lineup exploded again in the sixth as they added five more runs, then added one more in the seventh from a homer by Derek Aguon. The Redmen’s Sky Omelan hit up a solo dinger in their last at-bat, but it was too little too late as the rest of the lineup failed to produce.
The Man Amigos then won in another nail biter against Asahi, 13-12.
The Man Amigos’ top and middle of the lineup’s productivity was the crucial component to their win as cleanup hitter Manny Sablan hit a two-run homer in the sixth to put them up, 13-7. Asahi then said “hold my beer” as they scored five runs in their at-bat to get within one, 12-13.
However, Man Amigos’ pitching did their job and sealed the deal as they held down Asahi in the last inning and came away with a one-run win.
Lastly, Sufa outscored Saipal, 14-2. Sufa’s runs were scattered throughout the game, while Saipal’s two runs came in the fourth. Sufa’s Audie Maratita, hit three homers—two grand slams and a two-run homerun, while Pat Deleon Guerrero went yard with two 2-run dingers himself.
Last Sunday, there were no games in observance of Mother’s Day. Games will resume this Sunday, May 19.
