Vizion repeats in Destroyers Friendly champs
Vizion Insurance are repeat champions as they cleared a lopsided path to victory over Beto, 108-67, in the finals of the Destroyers Basketball Club Friendly Games 2024 Season 2 at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium last Sunday night.
The game was mismatched from the start, with Vizion growing stronger by the minute. By halftime, they had an overwhelming 51-23 lead. Vizion’s Arnold Sangoyo put up 7 straight points then ended the first half with 17, while Christian Bravo and Alex Robles contributed 12 and eight points each respectively.
The margin widened in the second half as sharpshooters Sangoyo, Robles, Mii Tekopua, and Bravo kept the baskets coming.
Hot streaks solidified Vizion’s dominance, with Robles scoring 6 straight, followed later by seven unanswered points.
As the game neared its end, the “friendly” nature of the league became clear. With Vizion already dominating, Beto’s team allowed uncontested shots, giving Vizion’s bench free opportunities.
This inflated Vizion’s lead to 41 points, with Rico Morales sinking 7 markers and Arnold Arboleda adding 3.
In the end, Robles racked up 30 points with Sangoyo right behind at 27. Tekopua put up 17 markers, while Bravo scored 16.
On the other hand, Jhomer Espinueva and Keith Santos were the only ones in double digits with 22 markers each.
In the third place match before the finals, Underground won after they beat Velleza in a close matchup, 100-97.
The MVP was Robles. He said after the awards ceremony, “I just did what I could for our team to win. I distributed the ball but we also talked about having good defense because Beto is a good team. We just did our best as a team and had great teamwork, that’s why we’re champions.”
As for the season, he said, “It was fun and enjoyable. It was a good league. There were a lot of good teams this season so we also improved our game. We had an addition of Bravo so that’s also why we won.”
Vizion 108 – Robles 30, Sangoyo 27, Tekopua 17, Bravo 16, Pablo 10, Morales 7, Arboleda 3.
Beto 67 – Jhomer Espinueva 22, Santos 22, Guinoo 8, Hermosa 6, J.R. Espinueva 5, Alviz 4.
Scoring by halves: 51-22; 108-67.
