Wettz, Lady Blue Jays, Man Amigas debut strong in women’s softball

Teams Wettz, Lady Blue Jays, and Man Amigas dominated their debut starts in the Inaugural NMI Softball Women’s League 2024 last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field in Susupe.

In the last game of the day, Wettz slipped past Dirty Diamonds, 17-16.

It was a literal walk in the park for both teams as they scored most of their runs via RBI walks because both teams’ pitchers could not locate the strike zone. A total of 24 walks were issued to team Wettz, while 13 were registered to Dirty Diamonds.

With the game on the line, the Dirty Diamonds lost their one run 16-15 lead at the bottom of the sixth. Wettz pitcher Aamalina Evangelista helped her cause as she and Grace Iriarte scored two to win the ball game, 17-16.

The Dirty Diamonds held a 4-0 lead after the first and added one more in the third, but Wettz retaliated quickly and scored nine runs after three complete innings for a 9-5 game. Then Wettz stagnated as they would score just six to Dirty Diamonds’ 11 runs at the end of top of the sixth. Dirty Diamonds’ Britney Gopez started their offensive onslaught with an inside-the-parker.

Then, pitching became the Dirty Diamonds’ Achilles Heel as they went through three pitchers after they could not hold on to their one run lead.

The second game saw the Lady Blue Jays soar to victory, 10-3, over 670 Babes.

The Lady Blue Jays’ fifth inning spark ignited their winning run after they scored seven straight. Earlier, they scored two in the second from pitcher Bert Camacho and Sonia Isaac for a 9-1 game. The Babes’ Lani Taisacan scored their first run in the second, while their two other runs came a little too late in the last inning.

Then, the Lady Blue Jays’ Kiana Camacho scored the 10th run at the top of the last inning, while the Babes fell in order in their last at-bat.

In the opener, Man Amigas bonded with their win against Batties, 4-1.

The Batties opened the game with their only run in the first inning, when Lynnae Cabrera, who reached on a single, was brought home by her teammates. However, they remained scoreless throughout the game after struggling to make contact with pitches from Man Amigas pitcher Evita Maratita.

The Man Amigas, on the other hand, finally got things going in the third inning with a run by Jashmine Ramon to go up, 1-1. Christy Aldan then took the lead for them after she rounded the bases off an error in the fifth.

Then, the Man Amigas wrapped up their first game of the season with two more runs by Rosie Saralu and Maratita in the sixth for a 4-2 final.

Games are played every Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field in Susupe from 10am, 12pm, and 2pm.
