Yamagashi yanks August ace
Dolores Yamagishi registered her first win of the CNMI Women’s Golf Association season during the August CWGA Tournament held last Aug. 10 at the Coral Ocean Resort in Agingan.
The 2023 CNMI Women’s Golf Association Two-day Tournament champion shot a net score of 71 to fend off other challengers for the monthly plum.
Yamagishi shot a 46 in the front nine and a 47 in back for a gross of 93, which minus her 22 handicap, gave her the winning net score of the August tilt.
“The course was okay but the weather was hot and humid,” she said about the round last Saturday. Her easiest hole was hole No. 3, “because it’s a short par 3.”
While her most difficult hole was hole No. 5, “because there were bunkers and water [hazards].”
The 69-year-old then dedicated her August win to all “CWGA ladies that played that day.”
Her three-word answer to how she felt after winning the monthly tourney was, “It felt good!”
Yamagishi, a 20-year veteran in playing golf, said she got her start in the sport after she began playing with friends.
Runner-up in the August tourney was Sunny Hyun with her net 73 built around a 46 in the first nine holes and a superb 39 in the last nine for a gross of 85. Third place went to Janet Torres with an identical 73 but lost via scorecard tiebreak. She had a line of 42-49 and 91.
Lorraine Babauta came in fourth with a net of 74, while Saehee Kim and Eue Ae Chang finished fifth and sixth with post-handicap scores of 75 apiece.
