Verizon dials up a victory against Kagman
The Verizon Sluggers knocked Kagman 1-2-3 into another area code Friday night as they dialed up a convincing 19-4 victory over the newest addition to the Saipan Softball Association in continuation of the 2004 Men’s Island Wide Fast Pitch Softball season at the Oleai Sports Complex.
John Manibusan and Kaleb Dulei combined for a three-hitter atop the mound for Verizon, while John Sablan and Stan Laniyo each went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the telecommunicators.
This was the inaugural game for the team from far away, and Verizon certainly took advantage of the lack of experience of Kagman 1-2-3.
Many players came up big for the telecommunications company as JR Suel doubled and tripled for three RBI’s, Mabel Ngirmelas came off the bench to crank a pair of doubles in the fourth, and John Delos Santos went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI’s. The biggest of which came about when Delos Santos smacked a bases loaded triple in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The game was all Verizon as the outstanding operators were leading 11-1 after the third inning. Kagman 1-2-3 scored another run in the top of the fourth but Verizon reached out and touched 1-2-3 pitching for more eight runs. Kagman added a pair in the fifth, but time had run out for the homesteaders as the 10-run mercy rule had taken effect.
There’s plenty more fast pitch action coming your way as the 2004 Men’s Island Wide Fast Pitch Softball League continues tonight at 6:30pm in Oleai, and every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night throughout the season.
