While the Garapan Rollers I are currently outclassing their opponents in the ongoing Saipan Rotary Summer Youth Basketball League, sister team G-Rollers II continued to experience setbacks, suffering another loss last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Coach Joe Diaz and his G-Rollers I had their hands full for most parts of their match against the Chalan Kanoa Saints, but again found ways to extend their win streak to five games with a 76-65 win.

The Saints kept close throughout the game behind veteran Luis Reyes, while gunner Pete Iguel fueled Garapan’s charge.

Reyes would go berserk for 22 points in the first half, while Iguel torched the net for 17 points as the two squads rested at the break all knotted up at 37-37.

The two scoring machines finally had their sidekicks get into the action as Reyes’ younger brother L.J. broke loose in the second half while Lester Babauta heated up for the G-Rollers I.

The Reyes brothers would combine for 24 points, but their one-two punch was not quite enough as the rest of their teammates combined for a measly 4 points while the G-Rollers I kicked it into high gear, and behind a balanced attack, stormed ahead to keep their unbeaten record intact.

Iguel finished with 25 points to lead the G-Rollers I while Bill Kaipat and Babauta sizzled for 12 and 10 points.

Luis and L.J. topscored for the Saints, scoring 33 and 18 points in a losing cause.

Earlier, defending champion Ol’Aces went wild and caught fire in the second half en route to lambasting the G-Rollers II 77-51.

The G-Rollers II hung tough in the opening minutes, trailing by just 4 points at the break, 31-35, but weren’t able to keep up with standout Dan Barcinas and the rest of the Ol’Aces gang, who ran on all cylinders and lit up the scoreboard for 42 points in the second half to secure the win.

Steven Kim led the Ol’Aces with 14 points while Jeff Deleon Guerrero and Aitau Barcinas added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Orrin Ogumoro and Dan Barcinas also finished in double figures with 10 points apiece.

Anc Tebuteb paced the G-Rollers II with 12 points while Philip Cequena chipped in with 10 points.

As of press time, results from yesterday’s games weren’t available. Taking the hardcourt were G-Rollers III and Sparks in the first game while Makos battled Junior Nationals in the nightcap.
